Five years ago Mika began volunteering for Impact through our Sack Lunch events and quickly became part of our admin staff. She has a smile that lights up a room, a personality that you can't help become friends with, a mother to some amazing kids, and is the type of friend that will always be there for you. Mika is hands down one of the best people I've had the pleasure of meeting and getting to work with. While she sadly moved out of state she has continued to support Impact and help us by always being one of the first to show her support and help spread the word about what we do. Honestly I could not ask for a better person to be a part of our Impact family and a friend to so many of our staff.

Unfortunately Mika recently received some very bad news, that she has Stage 4 Breast Cancer. To make matters worse she was diagnosed as terminal and is currently going through chemo fighting for her life. Sadly however this isn't where the bad news ends. Mika has been staying at an Extended Stay while undergoing her treatment but hotels aren’t honoring the Cancer Society agreement that they have in place due to COVID.

Mika is an amazing person and while not normally one to ask for help we refuse to let her use up her life savings paying $635 a week while trying to stay alive and make it through this.

Mika told me "I’m just trying to keep my head a float until everything kicks in. I can’t work and that depresses me like crazy. I’ll get SSI since my health is considered terminal. It’s a weird situation but I’m thankful to be getting treatment and great doctors. I just have to keep a roof over my head until apartments are available which I don’t know when that will be due to covid. It’s hard to ask for help when you need it. Especially, when you’re used to making a way for yourself."

This is a woman that has dedicated years giving back to those in the community so I think it's time that as a leader in the community we do what we can to give back to her. I can't think of a more deserving person to help and someone who needs us to #makeanimpact as she has made an impact on so many so often.

We're launching this fundraiser in the hopes of raising enough money to pay for 6 weeks of her hotel stay while she's going through Chemo. If you're able to please help. Every dollar counts and I know this will make a huge difference not only in her life but in her treatment. I can't even imagine trying to fight for your life while trying to also fight not to end up homeless.

We appreciate your donation so much and we're incredibly grateful for your amazing heart and willingness to help someone so deserving.
